I was born and raised in ...

Hong Kong and continued my high school and college education in Los Angeles at the age of fifteen. Moving to Los Angeles from an extremely dense city at the age of fifteen made me realized immediately the drastic differences of lifestyle and spatial conditions that became evident when I first saw the eight-lane freeway 105 as I left the Los Angeles International Airport. Hong Kong, my birth place, is globally known for its free trading system, mixed cultures, highly developed public transportation network and expansive skyline. It is one of the most densely populated vertical cities in the world. Instead, Los Angeles’s urban sprawl offers a stark contrast to the dense and generic living conditions of Hong Kong. Perhaps, what became the most challenging difficulty during my transition was not the new language and new material values, but the low density, spacious living area, and low rise city planning. My choice to study architecture as my profession stems from the curiosity of human experiences in transition to various architectural spaces and environmental conditions.

In my thesis semester at Woodbury University, I enrolled a study-abroad program in Rome, Italy, and had some great opportunities to travel to arts of Europe. It had opened up my eyes to a new world. I traveled to over 30 major cities in Europe, Asia, and America.  The opportunities to live and visit different counties alone with the challenges of adopting into different infrastructural and cultural systems between cities and countries has extraordinarily developed my eagerness on trial and error, finding solutions, and refining the outcome.

I decided to return school, joining Frank Gehry Suprastudio at UCLA had enriched my understanding to architecture.  Looking at problems with different angle can result in some very different opportunities.  I believe architecture is innovative and thoughtful planning, which is highly considering sustainably, aesthetically, socially, and economically.  I am not only interested in designing space and architecture, in fact, I am deeply festinated by the building of architecture, and the details and communication required. What is the possibilities with design and planning?

Throughout my architectural study in High school, community colleges, and universities, I learned different approaches to analysis and design.  Simultaneously, the professional practices experience in previous offices had reinforced my knowledge from school. In a professional setting, I learned to interact effectively with teammates and coordinate with professional consultants, government agencies and contractors as a huge bonus from professional experience.  Currently, I am working on LEED GA Examination and intend to become LEED accredited professional in the near future.  At the same time, I am also working on my IPD program and in progress to achieve architect registration.
